Conversations with the Moon

Conversations With the Moon represents an ongoing study of Earth's satellite through concepts of space travel, spatial and temporal inquiry and interplanetary speculation.

Moon in Motion uses the concepts of time, movement and human interference to visually manipulate and obscure what we would otherwise see. The Moon was photographed using a combination of long exposures and physical movement of the camera, resulting in three iterations of the same subject with three different visual endpoints.

In Eclipse, time is studied through a series of photographs taken during a rare total eclipse of the Moon in perigee. The passage of time is marked through the transition of the Earth’s shadow on the lunar surface in a slow and deliberate observation. The appearance of the Moon changes throughout this shadow phase, from full, to partial eclipse, to blood red and back again, all within 3 hours and 17 minutes.
